How to save money on jewellery

While it may be luxurious and wonderful to spend a whole heap of money on a piece of jewellery, it is not a sustainable shopping style for most people.

Everyone has financial restrictions that they must live within and yet every outfit tends to command a different combination of jewellery, which leads a huge number of women to wonder how on earth they are going to fund their addiction to fashion over the course of their lives.

If they end up outside of the top one per cent of earners in the country then they will need to develop a strategy for accruing a great collection of accessories without taking on too many credit cards. Fortunately for them there are ways of getting jewellery on the cheap, although it may involve a little more effort.

Do it yourself

An option that some girls may not be familiar with is that they could create jewellery themselves using precious metal clay. What starts out looking a little like normal clay can be moulded into different shapes and made to look very professional by nimble fingers.

Obviously it is likely to take a few goes before you are able to put together more elaborate pieces, but the low cost will give you a chance to mess up a project and not feel like you have just lost a priceless heirloom. Plus, it is always nice to learn a new skill.

There is no harm in looking at hugely expensive jewellery for design inspiration and your final pieces may end up fooling friends and relatives if you become a dab hand at sculpting the clay.

Bargains

As well as making your own jewellery, there is always the favourite pastime of every student and money-conscious citizen: bargain hunting. It might take a while, but scouring your area’s charity shops, boot sales and antique stores can lead to some real finds.

It can be a frustrating process finding something you like for the right price, but the satisfaction of buying something at a knock-down price is a treat.
