Picking the right outdoors trip for you
Trips to the great outdoors can be very appealing, and once you’ve got your portable stove, paper plates and Regatta action trousers all ready and packed, the only thing left to decide is where to go?
The decision is all about considering what you want to achieve. Do you fancy getting your hands dirty and getting closer to nature; or having some relaxing time with loved ones? There are so many options to choose from, so breaking them down location by location can really help.
First up, the beach – a trip to the beach can be relaxing or invigorating, depending on what you do when you get there. You could lay on the hot sand, topping up your suntan and reading the latest trashy novels; or head out onto the water, where scuba diving, wind surfing and jet skiing await.
These can be fantastic activities to do, and really help kids feel safer in the water. Plus, they’re just plain fun, and a great thing all of the family can participate in.
Next, we have camping expeditions. These truly allow you to get in touch with Mother Nature, and can teach kids some valuable lessons about fending for themselves, having fun but staying safe, and how to rough it. National and smaller parks can be a great place to camp in, as can authorised camp sites.
Many have bathing facilities and play parks, so are perfect for families with kids.
Lastly, you could consider taking a hiking or rock climbing trip. These really get the pulse racing, and can offer amazing views once you reach the top of your destination.
However for these types of trips, health and safety is paramount; so ensure you and the family are fully kitted out with the right climbing equipment, clothing and sturdy boots before setting off.
